Fatherhood²: Need a Last-minute Father’s Day Gift?

Posted on June 13, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

the-view-from-the-02092322Whilst Father’s Day should be like Christmas to a dad blogger (as many of my dad-blogging friends will attest), it has the inconvenient habit of falling right in the middle of my two sons’ birthdays.

This year it sits the day after Robert’s 6th birthday party, the week before we’re heading off on a camping holiday and 2 weeks before Freddie’s birthday.

All of which is basically to say: I have made absolutely no use out of father’s day this year, as a blogger.

Which is quite annoying really – I had planned to write a gift guide like I usually do, and I even had a few people contact me with suggestions of gifts. Unfortunately, I left it far too late and now I’ve written myself into a corner, so to speak.

Luckily, the one person who actually offered to send me some gifts to try out – Virgin Experience Days – would make an IDEAL last-minute Father’s Day gift if you’re as badly prepared as me!

I’ve actually been to a few Virgin days before, and I’m due to take a trip up ‘The Shard’ in the very near future too – I’m sure I’ll bore you all with the photos when I do! But my point is: I can actually attest to these being a GREAT gift idea for dad, as I’ve been on lots and they’ve all been pretty awesome.

Whether you want to go Go-Karting (I do!), go out for a nice meal (yes please!), go sight-seeing in London (wave if you pass my office!) or simply learn a new skill, Virgin have got an experience to suit you – and they’ve got a wide range of prices too, so you don’t need to shell-out a tonne of money.

Anyway, when I’ve taken my trip up The Shard I’ll tell you how it goes – and if it is anything less than amazing, I promise I’ll come back here and eat my words! :)

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
