5 Tips to Make Family Travel Easier

Posted on December 2, 2022December 2, 2022 by Henry Elliss

When you take your kids with you to see the world, you’ll not only open them up to new experiences, but you’ll create family memories that will last a lifetime.

However, travelling with children can be stressful, especially if they aren’t used to being away from home. Luckily, there are things that you can do to make your family travel a little easier to manage.

If you’re planning an adventure with your little ones, here are just five tips you can try to help you out along the way.

  1. Little and Often

If you’re in a position to travel regularly – particularly while your children are young, enough that they haven’t started school yet – then try taking shorter trips more frequently. This will get them used to things such as airports and flying.

The younger your children are when they start travelling, the less stress they’ll become when you take them away, allowing for a more relaxing experience for both you and other passengers on a long-haul flight!

  1. Take Things Slow

Rushing from A to B isn’t always easy when we have kids, activities take longer, you need to factor in shorter legs, temper tantrums, and more bathroom breaks.

When you’re planning your travels, make sure that you factor in extra time, not just when it comes to the airport, but when you’re at your destination as well.

Remember, you’re on holiday, it’s okay to take it slow!

  1. Find the Right Accommodation for You

Choosing your accommodation is even more important when you’re travelling with your family.

While all-inclusive resorts are popular – they often have lots to do for you and your children – they aren’t the only option available to you.

It can be tempting to go for the resort option, but if your little ones are fussy eaters, then you might be better with a self-catered apartment. Airbnb is a fantastic platform for finding holiday rentals all over the world, so you’ll be sure to find the perfect property in your chosen location.

  1. Plan How You’ll Navigate

Whether you’re heading to a bustling city or a seaside town, it’s important to think about how you’ll get around. If you’re going to be renting a car, then you may need a car seat for your children.

Of course, if you’re going to be walking around, consider how you can make this easier on your little ones. Walking around a city can be both boring and tiring for children, so consider bringing along a pair of Yvolution Skates. This way your little ones will be able to skate alongside you… just give them plenty of time to practise before your holiday!

  1. Pre-Book Attractions

If there are certain activities you know you want to do while you’re away, then it’s a good idea to book beforehand to keep your kids from being disappointed if they’re sold out.

For example, if you’re travelling in the UK, services such as the Merlin Annual Pass not only allow you to pre-book attractions, but it’ll save you money too!

One good thing to come from this week’s rail strikes (and the subsequent week WFH) was my daily sunrise walks - something I really miss when I have to go into London. Fingers crossed that 2023 allows for a few more of them.
