For the half-dozen or so regular readers of this site (I’m not looking for sympathy here – having ANY regular visitors is more than I deserve, based on the infrequency of my posting) you will know that I’ve been posting about my adventures in camping for the last couple of years. I took the slight…

Family Camping for Beginners – A Guide to Buying a New Tent

Posted on May 31, 2022May 31, 2022 by Henry Elliss

After nearly 10 years of faithful service, our trusty Zenobia 6 tent looks like it might be on its way out. On our most recent trip, not only did we find quite a bit of rain coming through the roof at night, we’ve also got a couple of tent poles that needed drastic running repairs….

Family Camping for Beginners – Camping in the Time of Covid

Posted on July 14, 2020July 14, 2020 by Henry Elliss

Just over a week after the UK Government gave the nod to campsites that they were allowed to reopen, I’m pleased to report we have finally been on our first camping trip of 2020. By this point in the year we’d normally have been on two or three trips by now. Not to mention our…

Family Camping for Beginners – The Ultimate Guide for first time campers

Posted on July 5, 2020August 19, 2022 by Henry Elliss

When I first started sharing camping tips on this blog, a couple of years ago, camping was pretty low on most people’s holiday wish list. While there are many camping lovers out there, when you tell people that you’re heading on a camping holiday, you’d often be met with puzzled looks or faces of pity….

Family Camping for beginners – Why not give Camping in the garden a go?

Posted on April 16, 2020April 16, 2020 by Henry Elliss

With the UK in ‘lock down’ due to Corona virus and no end in sight, the prospect of taking a holiday seems like a long way off right now. Frankly, even getting out of the house can be tricky (or discouraged!) – so how do you stop yourself going stir crazy, especially when the weather…

Could Camping be the ideal break in the wake of Coronavirus?

Posted on April 6, 2020April 6, 2020 by Henry Elliss

You may or not have noticed, but I’ve not been posting to this blog much lately – over 6 months in fact. Around August last year we embarked on a house move which turned rather complicated, resulting in us being ‘transient’ / between-homes for nearly 3 months. We finally moved in on Valentines Day. A…

Family Camping for beginners – Tips for Packing up camping gear for the winter

Posted on September 17, 2019September 17, 2019 by Henry Elliss

Now that the end of the summer holidays are approaching, with the shorter days, lower temperature and everything else that autumn entails, many families will be thinking about putting their camping equipment away for the winter.  As much as I’d love to go camping more, it’s a lot harder to persuade my family to head…

It’s been a bit of a while since I’ve been able to review a new Lego set, but I was recently contacted about the latest additions to the Lego Harry Potter range – and naturally, I jumped at the chance. The set I was given to review is named ‘The Rise of Voldemort’, and as…

Posted on August 18, 2019June 7, 2022 by Henry Elliss

One of the main advantages of camping, especially when you have a young family, is the cost-effectiveness it can offer. Sure, you need to buy some equipment to start you off – but once you’re kitted-out to a level you’re happy with, it can be virtually free. But what if you enjoy camping AND have…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden.
