The Mysteries of a Child’s Body Clock

Posted on January 27, 2018March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had a lie-in over the past 10 years. I’m not talking about staying in bed ten minutes after the alarm has gone off. I mean a proper, sleep later-than-usual and wake up feeling…

Fatherhood: Why I’m embracing my own parenting mediocrity!

Posted on January 8, 2018December 6, 2018 by Henry Elliss

If you’ve not noticed by now, my blog has recently had somewhat of a face-lift. Not only have I got a new (hopefully more usable) look-and-feel, and a little bit of new functionality, I’ve also got an entirely new domain and brand. I am now “The Mediocre Dad”. I’ve been considering switching things up for…

Review – BenQ e-Reading Lamp

Posted on December 16, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

When I was first sent the BenQ e-Reading lamp to review, I was struck with a burst of inspiration. The e-Reading lamp is especially designed to be ideal for desks, making reading from electronic screens a much more pleasant experience. Now as I’m sure you can guess, we do have a LOT of screens in…

Review – Star Wars Jedi Training Remote & Holopanes

Posted on December 4, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Anybody who knows me will attest to the fact that I am long-time Star Wars fan. It’s not just the films either – I’ve read a lot of the “extended universe” books, collected the trading cards, have a loft full of action figures (both classic and new) and much, much more. In short, I’m a…

Competition: Win a Nest Smoke Detector with npower

Posted on November 25, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

If I asked you how much you know about Carbon Monoxide, chances are you’d probably give a very similar answer to me. Namely: not a heck of a lot. Apart from the basics I learned in GCSE science, I know that we have a couple of basic Carbon Monoxide detectors in our house, which our…

Review – Hassle the Hof(meister)

Posted on November 19, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As I occasionally mention when starting off my better reviews, the novelty of having a brand asking whether they can send me their product to try still hasn’t worn off, 6 years in. And when that brand happens to make beer, this is especially true. Who doesn’t want to try beer?! But when the email…

Review – A Tyre for All Seasons? Maybe I Can Help!

Posted on October 15, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Or: 14 things I learned at the Goodyear All-season tyre event in Luxembourg I was recently lucky enough to be invited along to join an event Goodyear Tyres were running in Luxembourg, to showcase their “All season” tyre range. Along with a contingent of other, much more successful bloggers than myself (including a few British…

Bugs and Slugs and Toads, Oh My!

Posted on October 6, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Last weekend we were up in Hereford, spending my birthday weekend with our extended family. It’s almost an annual tradition in our house, and one of my favourite weekends of the year – and not just because of the obvious birthday timing! My cousin and his wife live deep in the Hereford countryside, in a…

Review – YourDesign custom merchandise

Posted on September 15, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Over the past year, I’ve become a huge fan of a particular item of clothing: namely, the obscure reference t-shirt. You might not know an obscure reference when you see it – that is, after all, kinda the point – but I’m sure you’ve seen a few in the wild. I have a number in…

Where is your Happy Place?

Posted on September 15, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With Summer now rapidly disappearing in the rear-view mirror of 2017, you’d be forgiven for feeling a little bit sad about the approaching colder months. Whilst I personally LOVE the Autumn and Winter months (as I’ve written about a number of times) I appreciate that not everybody is in the same boat. Unlike the last…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
