Fatherhood²: Things I’ve learnt along the way – Midwives

Posted on January 20, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

One of the original reasons I wanted to start blogging about fatherhood was the experiences Sara and I had when Robert was first born. As well as being born by emergency caesarian (an impressive 3 hours between waters breaking and the cutting of the cord!), Robert was just 6lbs 2oz at birth, and also had…

Fatherhood²: Recording memories, web 2.0 style

Posted on January 14, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

One piece of fatherly advice I quite frequently get given is to make a note of some of the funny things your child says, so you can look back on it in years to come. Up until now, the only way I’ve been doing this is by posting them to my Facebook status – something…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Being a technodaddy has never been more fun

Posted on January 10, 2011February 20, 2011 by Henry Elliss

As an ‘IBMer’ my dad derived great pleasure from pitting his wits against complex techie challenges both at work and at home. He could often be found in the garage with a soldering iron and circuit boards or with transistors, resistors and microchips spread out on the kitchen table. Mum loves telling me how even…

Fatherhood²: The trouble with f*@#%$& bad language

Posted on January 9, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

When you find out you’re going to be a father, you will most likely find yourself overwhelmed by well-wishers and do-gooders offering advice, wisdom and general hints. Even if you don’t choose to read one of the many great ‘Becoming a daddy’ type books, family and friends will be more than happy to share their…

Daddy blogging – who fancies a bit of a blog?

Posted on January 8, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I posted something along these lines on Twitter yesterday – though obviously confined to the 140 character limit Twitter imposes… which, let’s face it, I’m amazed I ever manage to actually adhere to! I ramble, you see. But I suspect I’m making that point quite well now… Anyway, as I mentioned in the post below…

Fatherhood²

Posted on January 4, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I think some of you knew this day was going to come sooner or later. Today I can officially announce that, if all goes to plan, Sara and I are going to be parents again in the summer of 2011. I am writing this blog post on October 26th – the day after our 5…

Juvenilia – An end to the odyssey before it even began?

Posted on July 18, 2010June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Whilst driving home the other night, I (mentally) stumbled upon an idea for some fun content for this blog, other than the occassional rant or my ‘Year in Photos’ pictures  – based mainly on proving what a twat I was when I was a teenager. Somewhere in my piles of nostalgia, I have two A5…

10 Life Lessons I’ve Learnt From Mario Kart

Posted on July 16, 2010June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Having played Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii for a few years now, it struck me that there are lots of lessons one can learn from the game – not just for gaming, but for life itself. Here are mine: It’s not always best to be first too early. Some times it’s better to trundle…

My Top 4 Top 5 lists from a trip to Australia

Posted on July 11, 2010June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Partially because I don’t blog often enough (at least on here), but also because I felt like doing something a bit different from my normal photos, I thought I’d make a record of a few of my memories from my recent trip to Australia. It was my first trip to the Asia/Pacific area, indeed it…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
