Fatherhood²: A family-friendly four-star hotel experience

Posted on August 9, 2011June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Well, there’s a first time for everything – this is the first time I’ve ever written a blog post whilst on holiday! Thankfully, the experience I want to tell you about was SO good, I wanted to write a bit about it before I forget… This week, we’re down in Cornwall on a family holiday…

Fatherhood²: Once Upon a Time… Henry Decided to Write a Book!

Posted on August 1, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Throughout my working life so far, I’ve been involved in writing – in one way or another. My first job was with a publishing company in Bath, where (amongst many other things) I often had to write film reviews and other content for their cinema magazines. At Tamar (only my second job, ten years later!)…

Fatherhood²: He’s Just a Big Baby!

Posted on July 28, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Tomorrow will mark four weeks since baby Frederic was born, so I thought I’d post a quick “progress report” for the little chap. Well, that and the fact that I’ve not blogged for a few days and my sleep-deprived brain can’t think of an interesting topic. But it’ll be interesting for his grandparents, if nobody…

Fatherhood²: Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it’s Back to Work I Go…

Posted on July 24, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Just a little over 3 weeks after little Frederic was born, today marks the last day of my paternity leave – a realisation which has made me rather sad this weekend. As I’ve said in past posts during these few weeks, I really appreciate the paternity leave we in the UK get – and especially…

Fatherhood²: I’m Andy, he’s Molly… which one of you wants to be Buzz Lightyear?

Posted on July 17, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Yesterday was a big day for me as a father – or at least it was the start of a big process. I finally had an ‘Andy’ moment (As in Andy from Toy Story – or Toy Story 3 in particular) as I handed some of my toys down to Robert. Admittedly I’m a little…

Fatherhood²: Two Weeks In and it Could be Worse…

Posted on July 15, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Two weeks ago today I became a father again for the second time – as you’ll doubtless know if you’ve found this post by any method other than a Google search. It’s been an interesting experience so far – well, by interesting I of course mean tiring – but it’s certainly giving me a lot…

Fatherhood²: The First of Many Worries as a Father of 2… Equality!

Posted on July 10, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Now that we’re 10 days in to little Frederic’s life, the dust is beginning to settle and life is slowly getting back to normal. I say normal – I guess that could just be wishful thinking. We’re averaging about 5 hours sleep per night, spending most of our time in the house and mainly changing…

Fatherhood²: Five Days in, is it Double Trouble?

Posted on July 6, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Before little Frederic was born on Friday, I’d speculated on a few occasions that having a second child couldn’t possibly be as hard as the first one – something which I’m still just about clinging on to now, five days in to little Freddie’s life. Some things have definitely been easier, some things just as…

Fatherhood²: The Bumpy Road to Big Brotherhood

Posted on July 3, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

After several months of wondering how Robert would react to having a little brother, I’m pleased to report that things are going well so far. Baby Frederic has been home for over 24 hours now, and we’ve not had any cause for concern yet. In fact, Robert seems to be very keen to be involved…

Fatherhood²: Baby Freddie – the first motion picture!

Posted on July 2, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Okay, so it’s just a few video files – but it could well be the start of something big! Or something very small and cute…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
