Fatherhood²: The Pleasure and Pain of “Blogger Engagement”

Posted on April 25, 2011April 27, 2011 by Henry Elliss

As both a blogger and a social media… person, I regularly come in to contact with people hoping to form relationships with bloggers. I’ve even done it myself a few times – though I’m by no means an expert. But the concept of “blogger engagement” is a very interesting one to me, and – I…

Fatherhood²: Compassion Fatigue? Not for this Dad!

Posted on April 17, 2011April 17, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I should start by thanking Sara for this post – despite my pleas, she refuses to write me a guest post for this blog, but regularly gives me topics to write about when I’m suffering writer’s block. Apparently, in her pregnant state, Sara can’t watch the current NSPCC adverts without crying. This reminded me of…

Fatherhood²: [POLL] Favourite On-Screen Dads?

Posted on April 10, 2011 by Henry Elliss

A few weeks ago, I asked you to suggest famous on-screen dads so that I could run a poll, aiming to find your all-time favourite on-screen dads. Thanks to everyone who replied (through the various channels I asked on) – I got a good dozen or so to start with, along with a few suggestions…

Fatherhood²: New Paternity Rules – What Do You Think?

Posted on April 4, 2011 by Henry Elliss

For those that haven’t been following the news, new legislation came in to force yesterday (in the UK) which changes the way parents can use maternity/paternity leave. The new rules, devised by the last Government and held up by the current one, mean that fathers can now share a portion of the mother’s maternity leave…

Fatherhood²: The Madnezz of baybee naming in 2011

Posted on March 31, 2011March 31, 2011 by Henry Elliss

So I was planning to write a blog post about the waxing and waning of popular baby names, but I’ve been a little derailed… Sara and I are still 3 months away from the arrival of Baby 2.0, but we’re obviously now spending a bit of time thinking about baby names. I personally quite impressed…

Fatherhood²: Handy Advice for New Bloggers

Posted on March 28, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I was recently asked to contribute to an eBook being produced in Australia for would-be Mummy Bloggers. As well as being very flattered (and just as keen), I thought it would be a good opportunity to pass on some of the tips and tricks I’ve learnt whilst blogging over the past few years – as…

Fatherhood²: Pre-poll – Favourite On-Screen Dads?

Posted on March 27, 2011May 17, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I’m going to do a bit of a poll next week, to try to find who everyone’s favourite on-screen dads are – TV series, movies or even cartoons. I want to know who your favourites are – which are the dads who you wish were your own? Once I’ve got enough suggestions, I’ll do a…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – The Only Dad in the Park

Posted on March 24, 2011 by Henry Elliss

We live in the 21st Century. Apparently we are modern, diverse and multi-cultural. Women can vote. Men use moisturizer. We certainly don’t confirm to the patriarchal norms laid down by our unenlightened pre-historic forefathers. I went to the park with my two young sons today after collecting them from school. It was a beautiful sunny…

Fatherhood²: The Real Economics of Baby Number 2

Posted on March 23, 2011 by Henry Elliss

Let me start this post with a disclaimer: As a father, I would never advocate having or not having a child based on anything but a desire to start a family. Kids can be a pricey business, but if you are telling yourself “I can’t afford to have kids yet”, you could be waiting for…

Fatherhood²: A Spring Afternoon in the Life of a Daddy

Posted on March 23, 2011March 23, 2011 by Henry Elliss

This afternoon I was lucky enough to have a bit of time of work, as I was due to look after Robert while Sara had a parent’s evening at work. So Robert and I decided to make the most of the good weather and spend some time in the garden. I thought it would be…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
