Posted on March 16, 2011March 18, 2011 by Henry Elliss

A few weeks ago I posted a list of my 10 favourite pre-school story books, based on the ones that Robert likes to read on a regular basis. At the end I asked for some feedback on what classics I might have missed – and I got a LOT of comments with books I’d missed….

Fatherhood²: Baby purchases I can get behind

Posted on March 9, 2011March 10, 2011 by Henry Elliss

A couple of weeks ago necessary I did a post about baby gadgets which might not be necessary (in my opinion). To even things up, I thought I should do a quick follow-up focusing on the positives – some of the baby gadgets (or STUFF) which I’d definitely recommend getting. If you read my “10 favourite pre-school story books” post, you’ll know I’m a big fan of reading Robert his bedtime story every night – it’s one of the few consistent times in our day-to-day activities, as well as being a great developmental aid for him. So, I was very dismayed to read some recent…

Fatherhood²: Baby gadgets aren’t always baby good-gets

Posted on February 24, 2011February 24, 2011 by Henry Elliss

As a total gadget-loving dad, I relished parenthood as a good opportunity to stock up on new gadgets, tools, widgets and generally things with plugs on them. One of the few books I bought on the subject of parenthood was The Bloke’s Guide To Baby Gadgets – a fun read, though possibly not one I’d…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Thoughts on the arrival of baby no. 3

Posted on February 20, 2011 by Henry Elliss

Historians will be pleased to know that I kept a record of events leading up to the birth of our first two children in the form of a baby diary that I used to publish on a long forgotten family website. As these were written seven and five years ago respectively, reading them again gave…

Fatherhood²: On the baby’s knuckle or the baby’s knee…

Posted on February 18, 2011February 24, 2011 by Henry Elliss

If you read my last post, you’ll know that we recently had the 20-week scan for our unborn child – the scan where the midwives offer you the chance to know the sex of your unborn child. Well, at least SOME of them do – depending on the policy of your health authority, some don’t…

Fatherhood²: My 10 favourite pre-school story books

Posted on February 11, 2011January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As a father, one of the most regular ‘slots’ where I get to spend quality time with my son (especially during the week) is at bedtime – subsequently, I’ve probably read about 90% of the bedtime stories in his short life so far. Therefore, I’d consider myself reasonably well qualified to recommend a few good…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
