Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Thoughts on the arrival of baby no. 3

Posted on February 20, 2011 by Henry Elliss

Historians will be pleased to know that I kept a record of events leading up to the birth of our first two children in the form of a baby diary that I used to publish on a long forgotten family website. As these were written seven and five years ago respectively, reading them again gave…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – NCT? Of course not.

Posted on February 6, 2011February 20, 2011 by Henry Elliss

We are five weeks from Due Date and we are not doing NCT classes. Yes, that’s right, we are not doing NCT classes (cue: look of horror flashing across all parents’ faces). We signed up twice. And unsigned ourselves twice. Why? A few reasons. We’ve not heard glowing reviews about the content of an NCT…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Fright Club

Posted on January 26, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

It’s a curious thing. There you are, in a room full of other people in exactly…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Planning ahead, or not

Posted on January 22, 2011February 20, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I guess the one thing that I always come back to as a father is the question, “Where will we be in 12 months / 5 years / 10 years time”. The obvious offshoot to this guessing game is to envisage your children at certain milestones, Graduation… 21st birthday… first court appearance and the like….

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Being a technodaddy has never been more fun

Posted on January 10, 2011February 20, 2011 by Henry Elliss

As an ‘IBMer’ my dad derived great pleasure from pitting his wits against complex techie challenges both at work and at home. He could often be found in the garage with a soldering iron and circuit boards or with transistors, resistors and microchips spread out on the kitchen table. Mum loves telling me how even…

Daddy blogging – who fancies a bit of a blog?

Posted on January 8, 2011February 3, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I posted something along these lines on Twitter yesterday – though obviously confined to the 140 character limit Twitter imposes… which, let’s face it, I’m amazed I ever manage to actually adhere to! I ramble, you see. But I suspect I’m making that point quite well now… Anyway, as I mentioned in the post below…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
