Fatherhood²: On the baby’s knuckle or the baby’s knee…

Posted on February 18, 2011February 24, 2011 by Henry Elliss

If you read my last post, you’ll know that we recently had the 20-week scan for our unborn child – the scan where the midwives offer you the chance to know the sex of your unborn child. Well, at least SOME of them do – depending on the policy of your health authority, some don’t even allow you to ask – presumably to avoid any recriminations should they be wrong.

Anyway, just like with Robert, we opted to know the sex – and found out that we’re expecting another boy.

But a lot of people will leave the sex as a ‘surprise’ for baby’s birth…

In our opinion, this makes things a lot easier for us in the long run. We now know that we won’t need to buy too much extra clothing for the baby, as we’ve still got a tonne of hand-me-downs from Robert. Once the baby is out of the Moses basket, he’ll be able to happily share a room with his brother for many years to come. We’ve also only got half the amount of baby names to consider now, though that doesn’t seem to have made the process much easier to be honest!

In talking to other parents and future parents though, it seems clear that opinion is divided on whether to find out the sex of your unborn child before the birth, or whether to leave it as a nice surprise. So I thought I’d do a little poll, to find out what other parents think.

P.S. For those of you confused by the title of this post, have a listen to this song on YouTube…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
