Fatherhood²: Scary Tear-y Sharey Hallowe’en Bread

Posted on October 27, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

DSCF4801A few months ago, the nice people at Panasonic offered to let us try out one of their fancy new breakmakers. Having had various flirtations with bread machines over the years, I was more than happy to give it a whizz – after all, who doesn’t love fresh bread? Plus, we had the added benefit of having our house on the market at the time – and we all know how the smell of freshly baked bread is supposed to entice buyers in, no matter how tatty your house is!

So, we said yes, and tried out a bunch of their recipes. Once we’d got the hang of it, the nice lady from Panasonic asked if we’d come up with a recipe they could include on their blog – with the theme of ‘Halloween’. So, my wonderful wife got her thinking cap on (she’s MUCH better at figuring out flavours than I am) and came up with a spooky halloween-themed “tear and share” bread.

You can read our recipe (and see some photos we took – making-ofs, if you will!) in the Panasonic Ideas Kitchen if you’re interested in giving it a try. Rather than copy it all here, I thought I’d simply show you the end result, and you can decide for yourself. I don’t think you need a breadmaker to make it (though it’s obviously a lot simpler if you do) and you can adapt it to your taste very easily.

And hey – it sure beats pumpkin pie and sweets, right?

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
