Fatherhood²: Getting Crafty for Mother’s Day

Posted on March 22, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

DSCF5568With Mother’s Day approaching fast, the time has come to start planning our card – and as luck would have it, the timing coincided perfectly with an assignment from a reader!

When I was approached by a lady working on behalf of ‘Family Investments’ with the offer of a big box of craft STUFF to make a card with, I jumped at the chance. Don’t get me wrong, our craft cupboard is pretty jam-packed already, but craft bits-and-bobs get used very quickly in our house, so who am I to turn it down?

When she told me that the card we made would be entered into a competition to win a meal for the family, I jumped even higher. I suspect the chances of us winning are fairly slim, but seeing as we needed to get crafty for Mother’s Day anyway, I see it as a potential bonus – so we quickly got stuck in.

As you can see from the photos below, we made good progress – going as far as to make multiple cards in the same format, allowing us to send some to other family members too. In fact, the session went so well, we even knocked-up a few Easter cards too – result!

Robert and Freddie both got involved, and a couple of hours and a puddle of glue later, we were pretty pleased with the results.

As assignments go, it certainly was a fun one – and we’ve still got plenty of crafty stuff left from the session, so hopefully we’ll have plenty more cutting and sticking in the next few weeks.

I won’t tell you who made which one, but I think you’ll agree that both boys did an excellent job!

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
