Guest Post – How to Stay Healthy With a Desk Job

Posted on March 7, 2016January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

14624In the past few years, there’s been an explosion of blogs written by mums and dads, and some have been successful enough to make a living from them. All great, but it does create a problem. As the Huffington Post points out, sitting down too long can damage your health, especially causing back pain. But how can we work on our blogs without sitting down?

Sit-Stand Desks

One of the more radical changes that’s becoming popular around the world is to use desks and workstations designed for standing, rather than sitting. This may seem a strange proposition, but 90% of Scandinavian office workers are now standing for part of their working day. And, within the UK the British Heart Foundation launched a national on your feet day to encourage the circulation of blood.

The main problem is that standing all the time isn’t good for you, either, not to mention that some tasks, like typing, are more difficult standing. The solution developed is the sit stand desk, as seen on back2.co.uk, which can be easily adjusted to either option, as well as being flexible for users of different heights. You could, for instance, sit to type your blog posts and stand for tasks like research or approving comments.

Ergonomic Chairs

The other way to make your sitting healthier is to use an ergonomic chair. These are specifically designed to encourage a good posture while you sit, reducing the risk of back pain and there are a wide range of types and designs available. Besides ergonomically designed office chairs and executive chairs, there are stools and kneeling chairs that will help your posture.

14630So which is the best ergonomic chair to get? There’s no simple answer to that, which is why there’s such a range on sale. Spine-health comments that “No one type of office chair is necessarily the best, but there are some things that are very important to look for in a good ergonomic office chair,” going on to explain the vital things to take into consideration.

A Complete Solution

No single change will safeguard your health, and exercise is always vital. It would make a big difference, though, to use a sit-stand desk, with an ergonomic chair for when you need to sit, and if of interest to you, http://www.back2.co.uk supplies a large range of both.

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
