Fatherhood: Competition – Brew Your Own Beer!

Posted on November 26, 2016January 6, 2018 by Henry Elliss

img_1520With the holiday season fast approaching, you might be scratching your head wondering what to get the various dads in your life.

Whether it’s a husband, son, father or friend, we dads can be a tricky bunch to buy for – assuming we’re looking past the cliched socks anyway.

Thankfully, Brew Barrel have come up with a product which would make the ideal gift for the dad in your life – a home brewing kit that is almost fool proof!

Each kit contains everything you need (well, except tap water) to brew a small barrel of your own, customised lager.

I gave the Brew Barrel a try earlier this year, and was impressed with the results – I mixed some flavours, went through the various steps and patiently waited for a week or two until my beer was ready to taste. The finished result was truly unique (my ingredients choices might not have been to everybody’s taste!) and would make a great centre-piece for a Christmas or New Year party.

Luckily, one lucky reader can get a free Brew Barrel kit to try for themselves (or give as a gift – I’m not going to judge!!), as they have sent me a kit to give away.

All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning your own Brew Barrel kit is to follow the simple instructions in box below. Entries close on Sunday, December 4th.

Good luck – and happy brewing!

I’ve been tempted so many times to try home brewing. Love the idea of it, but it’s not knowing where to start.

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
