Guest Post – Which Wills tells you Which Will you need!

Posted on February 23, 2017January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The clever people over at Which? Wills have commissioned new research that reveals the ‘unmentionable’ topics in life that we often feel uncomfortable discussing with family and friends.

The survey and infographic reveal the trickiest subject matters are sex, finances, death and relationships.

However, our perception of taboo subjects depends largely on our relationship with the person we talk to. For example, conversations with kids will differ to those with parents; siblings; grandparents or friends.

According to the research, many of us have managed to avoid discussing awkward subject matters with our parents altogether and although it’s clear that wills are generally not seen as taboo subjects, we still don’t really like to talk about them.

Personally, my wife and I chose to get a will when we first became pregnant with Robert – becoming parents seems like the natural time to think about responsibilities and legacies of course. It was also a good way for us to clearly specify what would happen to our children in the unlikely (I hope!) event of our deaths.

When the time does come to begin thinking and talking about the topic of wills with those around us, Which? Wills has simplified the process of learning how to make a will with its easy to use online tool to create a will in 30 minutes.

One good thing to come from this week’s rail strikes (and the subsequent week WFH) was my daily sunrise walks - something I really miss when I have to go into London. Fingers crossed that 2023 allows for a few more of them.
