7 Necessary Skin Care Tips for Summer

Posted on May 31, 2022May 31, 2022 by Henry Elliss

With the arrival of summer, one of the things we like to do the most is enjoy the sun. There is no doubt that good weather changes the mood, makes us happier and more willing to go out. And it is that the sun provides us with 90% of vitamin D that our body needs, thus favoring the secretion of dopamine and serotonin, the so-called hormones of happiness.

However, and despite the fact that the sun helps us in many ways, it also has its negative side. Especially when we do not take the necessary precautions, since the sun’s rays can affect our skin causing burns, spots and increasing the risk of skin cancer.

Clinics and beauty product producers have for many years been working for the well-being of patients’ skin for years. They know that well-cared skin is healthy skin and for this reason, they encourage patients not to let their guard down throughout the year, especially in the spring and summer months when the sun’s rays are stronger and can cause more damage. For this reason, they have devised some tips that can help you enjoy the summer months without neglecting your dermatological health. Pay attention to the tips below to ensure healthy skin during the upcoming hot months.

Hydration

Exposure to the sun for hours on end causes dehydration, dryness and even flaking of the skin. That is why we must hydrate. How? Drinking plenty of water or fluids and applying moisturizing creams after showers.

Cleaning

Saltpeter or chlorine accumulate as residue on our skin. It is important to exfoliate it, so we will be able to eliminate impurities. A good cleaning routine never hurts.

Photoprotection

We know that you have probably read or heard about this topic countless times. The only help to protect our skin against the sun’s rays is the application of photoprotectors. It is important to apply them accordingly to our type of skin and always ensure that they are quality products. Do not forget that you should apply it every two hours to ensure a long protection time.

Face and lips

They are the great forgotten in terms of photoprotection. We tend to believe that the sun protection creams that we apply to our body are also suitable for our face and lips. Nothing is further from reality. So include special protectors for these parts of your body.

Control the time

After a tough year due to the pandemic… you can’t wait to let your hair down and stay on your sun lounger all summer. However, you should avoid the hours of maximum temperature that are usually between 10 and 17 hours. Try to balance the time you spend in the sun. Make use of umbrellas to protect yourself and, above all, use photoprotection.

Wear suitable clothing

When the heat hits, we all want to remove clothes because we think that it will make us feel cooler. However, it is not about how much we remove, but about using materials that are breathable. Take care of the areas that you have uncovered as they are the first to burn.

Healthy diet

During the summer it is important to make a change in our diet. Our body needs nutrients from fruits, vegetables and foods rich in antioxidants. All this, in addition to helping you achieve a healthy tan, will give you a feeling of freshness and help you feel lighter. Avoid meats and copious portions.

Easy, right? But if you still have doubts about how to protect your skin, do not hesitate to consult with a professionals. They know better than anyone what your skin needs.

One good thing to come from this week’s rail strikes (and the subsequent week WFH) was my daily sunrise walks - something I really miss when I have to go into London. Fingers crossed that 2023 allows for a few more of them.
