Travelling Safely – Tips and All you Need to Know

Posted on May 18, 2022May 18, 2022 by Henry Elliss

Travelling is a beloved activity that many people all around the world wish they could have an unlimited sum of money and time to spend on it. Why is that? The feeling of broadening their horizons, learning more about the world around them, seeing different lifestyles and becoming more accepting and tolerant are just a few of the benefits of travelling.

It should be clearly stated that there are some aspects of travelling that can be dangerous. People need to be aware of all the potential threats that come with visiting a foreign place and be physically and mentally prepared to avoid situations that might get them into trouble. Below you will find a few basic tips for travelling as safely as possible.

Tip 1: Do your research

Before booking your tickets and travelling anywhere, you should do your research and learn about the lifestyle, the customs and traditions of the people in the place you want to visit. This is crucial as it is your responsibility to be respectful of the locals who have welcomed you to their country. For example, you should know if there is a specific, conservative dress code you need to follow or how to behave in a place that is considered sacred.

Tip 2: Know your rights

Laws and regulations differ from country to country. Thus, a thorough research about a place before going there can save you from a legal battle that you may get involved in due to ignorance. In this case, you should ask the counsel of lawyers online immediately, so that you can find out what the best way to get out of a scary situation like this is. You should ask for legal counsel right away because you might make matters worse due to your lack of knowing how things work in the country you’ve visited.

Tip 3: Don’t trust people

This might sound harsh but there are many people out there who have made a fortune by taking advantage of others who are in a vulnerable state. And when it is obvious that you are a tourist, you become an easy target for criminals because you are not familiar with your surroundings and with the common tactics used to steal things around there. Do not give your suitcase to anyone who offers to find you a taxi and do not believe in too-good-to-be-true deals. Always keep your belongings close to you and do not let them out of your sight.

Tip 4: Memorise your emergency contact number

It is not unusual for tourists to get so excited and overwhelmed by their travelling experiences that they lose their phones. Not to mention that they may get robbed of their phone while they are out exploring, and they may realise it when it is too late. In any case, you should memorise the phone number of a person you trust back home so that you can contact them and ask for help if you need it.

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
