Preparing for the future should involve a variety of investments to ensure the financial strength and longevity of your family’s assets. While there are a number of options, having a substantial portfolio that includes property investments is key. One of the best things you can do for the future is to invest in property that…

Fatherhood²: DISASTER in Tooth-fairy Land

Posted on April 30, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The Elliss family were on the brink of a developmental dental-disaster this evening… It all started when my wife picked Robert up from school. He’s had a wobbly tooth now for several weeks – possibly months. We’re talking the most hotly-anticipated teeth-based incident for decades. This was Robert’s first foray into teeth-losing, so it took…

Fatherhood²: Competition – Heroes of the City

Posted on April 6, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

When I was sent a copy of a ‘Heroes of the City’ DVD to review, I’m ashamed to admit I was a little sceptical. As a slightly snobby TV-parent (If I had my way, my kids would never watch anything but the BBC) I rarely venture away from the comfort of the TV shows I…

Fatherhood²: 10 Phobias not Ideal for Parents

Posted on April 3, 2014August 19, 2022 by Henry Elliss

Today I learnt (to much amusement, I’m ashamed to admit) that somebody I know has an unusual phobia. Now I’m not going to name names here, because I don’t want to see the person in question suffering from unnecessary anxiety (though part of me is quite curious to see what happens!) but the phobia got…

Fatherhood²: Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby

Posted on March 31, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Don’t worry, I haven’t gone mad and decided to explain the birds and the bees to my 2 and 5 year old – this is a completely different type of sex conversation… As I sat with the boys last night, ready to read our usual 2 bedtime stories, I was chatting with Robert about one…

Fatherhood²: Treat Your Mum – it’s Competition Time!

Posted on March 23, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Even though they love us dads too, the team over at sk:n clinics asked if I wanted to run a competition for Mother’s Day – and who am I to turn down cool competitions? Especially when it means one lucky winner can win almost £100-worth of skin-care products for the lovely mum in his or…

Fatherhood²: Getting Crafty for Mother’s Day

Posted on March 22, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With Mother’s Day approaching fast, the time has come to start planning our card – and as luck would have it, the timing coincided perfectly with an assignment from a reader! When I was approached by a lady working on behalf of ‘Family Investments’ with the offer of a big box of craft STUFF to…

Fatherhood²: My Son, the Future Olympian?

Posted on March 15, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Robert received one of his first tastes of success this week, when Olympic Gold medallist Jason Gardener visited his school to talk to the children about sport. When he came home from school that evening, Robert told his mum “Today I beat an Olympic medallist in a race!” – which confused us greatly until we…

Fatherhood: 10 Reasons You Should Marry a Teacher

Posted on March 13, 2014October 17, 2016 by Henry Elliss

I spend a lot of my time on this blog talking about my children – or the interesting aspects of being a dad. What I don’t spend anywhere near enough time on is appreciating my wife – mother of my children, light of my life. For those of you that don’t know, my wife is…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
