Fatherhood²: Guest Post – The Pleasure and Pain of a Shared Passion

Posted on May 22, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Play well my son, for tonight you go to bed with no supper A wise sage, I think it was Superman, once said “The son becomes the father and the father becomes the son”. This historic bond between blood males has become the backbone of the family unit and when a shared passion unites them…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Tips For Flying With Small Children

Posted on May 20, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

My wife and I have just come back from our first holiday aboard with our lovely toddler Izzy. She was just under two when she flew with us meaning that we only had to pay a small surcharge for her, but the consequence was that she had to share a seat with her mummy. Leading…

Fatherhood²: The Ultimate Father Quiz

Posted on May 17, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I’ve been meaning to write a little quiz for a while now, and I’ve finally got round to it. I’m intending to add a few more rounds in the coming week, but since it’s firmly in the “just for fun” category I thought I’d post it up now to see how it goes down. Once…

Fatherhood²: A £50 Birthday Card For Your Son? Priceless, Apparently!

Posted on May 13, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As I mentioned in a post earlier this week, I’ve been spending my evenings this week working on Robert’s birthday card. Not a card for me to give him on his birthday – no, this is (or so I thought) FAR more important than that. This is the card we’ve sent in to the BBC…

Fatherhood²: The Beginnings of a Masterpiece?

Posted on May 8, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Today I finally started work on something I should have begun several weeks ago. I also reconstructed the Cot which had been gathering dust in the garage, in preparation for Baby #2’s imminent arrival. But that was nothing compared to my most important task – one which I’ve never undertaken before, and could make or…

Fatherhood²: Some of the best things ARE free!

Posted on May 2, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As a father, I freely admit that my wife is a MUCH better parent than me. I won’t go in to the many hundreds of reasons why this is true (I’ll save that for another post…!) but needless to say, she’s the one who ends up making dinner most days, spends the most time with…

Fatherhood²: The Pleasure and Pain of “Blogger Engagement”

Posted on April 25, 2011April 27, 2011 by Henry Elliss

As both a blogger and a social media… person, I regularly come in to contact with people hoping to form relationships with bloggers. I’ve even done it myself a few times – though I’m by no means an expert. But the concept of “blogger engagement” is a very interesting one to me, and – I…

Fatherhood²: Compassion Fatigue? Not for this Dad!

Posted on April 17, 2011April 17, 2011 by Henry Elliss

I should start by thanking Sara for this post – despite my pleas, she refuses to write me a guest post for this blog, but regularly gives me topics to write about when I’m suffering writer’s block. Apparently, in her pregnant state, Sara can’t watch the current NSPCC adverts without crying. This reminded me of…

Fatherhood²: [POLL] Favourite On-Screen Dads?

Posted on April 10, 2011 by Henry Elliss

A few weeks ago, I asked you to suggest famous on-screen dads so that I could run a poll, aiming to find your all-time favourite on-screen dads. Thanks to everyone who replied (through the various channels I asked on) – I got a good dozen or so to start with, along with a few suggestions…

Fatherhood²: New Paternity Rules – What Do You Think?

Posted on April 4, 2011 by Henry Elliss

For those that haven’t been following the news, new legislation came in to force yesterday (in the UK) which changes the way parents can use maternity/paternity leave. The new rules, devised by the last Government and held up by the current one, mean that fathers can now share a portion of the mother’s maternity leave…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
