Fatherhood²: Off-grid Daddy Time – Making Small Steps

Posted on October 29, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

This weekend just gone, Sara and I were lucky enough to be invited to spend a weekend with her family in a delightful cottage in Studland, Dorset. Not only were we surrounded by the beautiful Dorset coastline for a long weekend, Robert and Freddie got to spend some time with their cousins in a very…

Fatherhood²: How well do you know your Cbeebies presenters? [QUIZ]

Posted on October 13, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As a regular Cbeebies viewer (with the children I hasten to add – well, mostly!) I often find myself discussing the channel and it’s shows with other parents. Whilst my son’s biggest worry is how Kwazzi and Barnacles will get out of their latest scrape, I enjoy the usual parental activities – internally reviewing the…

Fatherhood²: Another First – The Self Portrait!

Posted on September 17, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

This post won’t be a long one, but it’ll certainly be a proud one. For today, Robert drew (what we think is) his very first self-portrait! Drawn at school today, and very proudly presented to Mummy as she found it in his book bag, Robert was VERY pleased that Sara chose to hang it on…

Fatherhood²: Robert at School – One Week In

Posted on September 10, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Well, today marks the end of Robert’s first week of school (I know it’s Monday – he started on a Tuesday!) and I’m pleased to report he seems to be enjoying it MUCH more than he had previously been imagining. Having said that, he certainly *hasn’t* got used to getting ready for school in the…

Fatherhood²: The African Alphabet, via Sesame Street

Posted on September 6, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

One of my all-time favourite songs from Sesame Street – as performed by the legendary Kermit the Frog, supported by the equally-legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Utterly beautiful!

Fatherhood²: 5 Books for Preparing Kids for School

Posted on September 3, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I should probably have written this post a couple of weeks ago to be honest, since we’ve been drip-feeding some of these books for the past few months at least. But hey – better late than never! As this week will see a load of little munchkins heading off to ‘big school’ for the very…

Fatherhood²: Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s Off to School we go…

Posted on September 2, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Well, it had to happen eventually – and the start of term seems like as good a time as any, ha ha. Yes, Robert is starting “big school” this week – Tuesday to be precise. And as you can see from the photo below, he’s REALLY looking forward to it! :-/ To be fair to…

Fatherhood²: The Joy of Kids – 50+ Things You Would Never Have Known if You Hadn’t Had Kids

Posted on August 22, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

In a move partially inspired by writer’s block, and partially by a desire to write something positive which would reassure prospective and expectant parents, I posted a question on both my Twitter and my Facebook last night – and the following are just some of the great responses I received. The question I asked was…

Fatherhood²: The Lego Story – 15 Minutes of Lego Brilliance

Posted on August 15, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

If you’re a Lego fan and want to know more about the company’s origins, 80 years ago this year, you could do a lot worse than to watch this amazing short film they’ve put out to celebrate the anniversary. It’s got a very ‘Pixary’ feel to it, though it doesn’t actually seem to have been…

Fatherhood²: 5 Things I Decided Not to Blog About

Posted on August 13, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With two weeks of Olympics brilliance now over and done with, I’ve decided it’s time for me to get back on the proverbial horse and start blogging again. I’ve not posted (properly) for almost a month, which wasn’t at all intentional (I’ve not been doing anything more interesting!) but as with most things you put…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
