That sink(ing) feeling…

Posted on August 22, 2007 by Henry Elliss

The building is coming along fast and furious, though the Reading Festival has eaten our builder for this friday so it probably won’t get finished this week. The bath is almost completely finished now, the sink is on the wall and plumbed in, the floor has been leveled and laminated, and the radiator’s on the…

Bathroom coming along nicely..

Posted on August 21, 2007 by Henry Elliss

The bathroom is coming along swimmingly, with a Friday finish looking quite probably now (finger’s crossed!)… The tiling is all but finished now, the shower tray is in and looking good, and the door is being bricked up as we speak…

The bathroom after the first 3 days…

Posted on August 18, 2007 by Henry Elliss

As you can see from the photos below, the new bathroom is coming along nicely. The progress has started to be really visible, with the biggest difference (and most annoying for the builder!) being the blocking up of the old back door, which has now been done – from the inside at least. The bath…

The bathroom cometh…

Posted on August 15, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Finally, after having most of the suite sat in the garage for the past 6 months, the building work started on the new bathroom today, with an absolute shed load of work getting done by our fantastic new builder Tony Allwood. The first day’s progress including ripping the entire suite out of the old bathroom,…

Tackling the ivy…

Posted on August 15, 2007 by Henry Elliss

The ivy that climbs up the back of the house finally got too much for Simon and Sarah upstairs today, as it had started to creep in the window on their landing, so we decided to take action today. Having got permission from the guys in the bottom flat next door, we headed in to…

New carpet and the world BIGGEST wardrobe

Posted on August 7, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Well the time has come at last for the new carpet to be fitted – after almost a year of having bare floorboards in both bedrooms (slippers a must!) we ordered a new carpet from the nice people at Carpet Right and had it fitted it this week. Since Henry is off on 2 weeks…

Absolutely A-door-able

Posted on July 14, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Having had a lot of success with the new bathroom door, we decided to push our luck and see if we could repeat it with a new door in the lounge. We plan to eventually replace all the doors, but considering the bedroom doors and the kitchen one will all get replaced when their respective…

A look at the garden in Summer

Posted on July 7, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Since it’s been so wet this summer, the garden plants have done very well. The vegetables are another matter mind you – a couple of courgettes is all we managed to get grown this year – but the bamboo in particular is doing extremely well. Also below is a shot of the garden next door…

Small room, to(i)let

Posted on May 6, 2007April 22, 2019 by Henry Elliss

For a small room this is going to be a BIG update! At long last (especially in Sara’s opinion!) we got round to starting the mammoth task of re-doing the bathroom this weekend, with the daunting yet satisfying task of replacing the crap (‘scuse the pun) old toilet with a sparkling new B&Q loo. The…

Spring Cleaning

Posted on April 10, 2007 by Henry Elliss

So we’re a third of the way through 2007 and we’ve done very little in terms of DIY this year. But now having the spring air around has begun to inspire us a little more to complete those jobs we keep meaning to do. That and the fact we have new upstairs neighbours who have…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
