I’ve got the next 6 days off (a warm-up to our holiday in France in a week-and-a-half’s time!) so Robert and I headed out to Sainsburys this morning, to do the weekly shop. It was there that I spotted this sort-of marketing #fail…
As you can see, Sainsburys are trumpeting the insane value of these DVDs – “From £3 each” it says on the sign. But as you can clearly see (or at least you can if you click on the image), a lot of the DVDs are even cheaper than that, some at just £1. So why would you not put THAT on the sign?! Seemed a bit crazy to me…
Hmmm. I’m not so sure. When I see these offers, there tends to be one rubbish film at the low price and the rest (the decent ones) at a higher price. Three quid is a draw card and if I looked closer (as I probably would) and saw some decent films at an even better price, I’d hoover them up. Conversely, if I saw a sign that said DVDs for a quid I’d probably walk by on the assumption that it would probably be stuff like Robert Kilroy Silk – the platinum collection and a biopic of some failed former cast member from Coronation Street. So three quid to me sounds like the sweet spot.
Going off on a tangent – ‘Taken’ is definitely worth £3, fantastic film.
