Burnt Island, St Agnes

Posted on March 12, 2008 by Henry Elliss

The strange structure on Burnt Island off St Agnes, pictured here in 2004 and 2006. I’ve never been entirely clear on what this is for – any ideas?

Bryher All Saints Church

Posted on March 12, 2008 by Henry Elliss

The All Saints Anglican church just up the road from the main quay on Bryher, pictured here in 1996, and 2005 and 2006. Apparently this church holds the honour of being the most westerly church in the (Anglican) Provinces of Canterbury and York! Once again, the 2005 shot is used by permission of John Jenkins

Bryher Beach

The beach next to the main quay on Bryher, pictured here in 1987 and 1989. I’ve been reliably informed by John Hicks that the boat SC47 was/is called ‘The Shiralee’, so there you go.

The Bishop Rock Lighthouse

Posted on March 12, 2008 by Henry Elliss

The world famous Bishop Rock Lighthouse, seen here way back in 1969 and then more recently in 2005 and 2006. According to the Guiness Book of world records, Bishop Rock is listed as the world’s smallest island – and you can read more about it at the Trinity House website. The shot from 2005 was…

Tearing the floor up at New Year

Posted on December 31, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Having got back from a busy Christmas all over the country, Sara decided to take some initiative and rip up the kitchen floor! Parts of it have been peeling up intermitently for a while, but after we left the fridge defrosting while we were away a lot more of it had come up. So we…

A (still) unfinished job

Posted on October 23, 2007 by Henry Elliss

This is a bit of a work-in-progress job – sorting out the part of the toilet room that was previously behind a cupboard. Sadly, the previous owners decided not to bother plastering it properly when they installed the new boiler, and instead just stuck a load of cruddy posters and letters over the top. Obviously…

Filling in the gaps

Posted on September 16, 2007 by Henry Elliss

One of the few areas which we hadn’t already painted is the area outside the bathroom – for the obvious reason that we were waiting until the bathroom was finished so we knew where to paint! Now that it IS finished, we’re painting the bit outside the door to match the rest of the hall…

Almost finished!

Posted on August 28, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Today was Tony’s last day at the house, and he managed to finish everything he planned to. All we have to do now is decorate a bit – paint the bathroom, treat the new doors etc. Henry also managed to hang a new door in the bedroom, which was a bit of a bonus!

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
