Fatherhood: Family Days Out – Christmas at Legoland Windsor

Posted on December 14, 2014June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With the big day fast approaching, and a trip to see Father Christmas still not ticked-off our seasonal ‘to do’ list, my wife came across an interesting new option last week. It seemed to fulfil all the criteria: a fun day out, a chance to meet the big man and do some other Christmassy stuff,…

Fatherhood²: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Posted on November 6, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Time for an admission: I’m one of those annoying people who starts getting excited about Christmas around the start of November. Actually, that’s not strictly true: I actually start getting excited about it around the end of August, but I try not to vocalise this excitement until slightly later in the year, lest I make…

With the major disruption and stress of our house move now behind us, the Christmas spirit has well and truly arrived in the Elliss household. The Christmas tree is up and decorated, the tinsel is hung and the wreath has yet to be stolen from our front door. We’ve even had multiple viewings of the…

Guest Post – How to Deal with a Bad Secret Santa

Posted on October 23, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

We’ve all been there. The run up to Christmas means you get a randomly selected recipient for you amazing gifting skills, but fate deals you the weirdo that sits in the corner picking their nose, speaks to no one all year, and that you generally hate. Someone has to have them no matter how much…

Fatherhood²: Show Dad You Love Him – Ditch The Ties!

Posted on June 11, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Last weekend, I was listening to Steve Wright on Radio 2, and as usual he was talking about some ‘research’ or tips he’d found on the web. According to the article he was reading (I think it was from MSN – most of them seem to be), Father’s Day is simple = get your dad…

Fatherhood²: What do you get the child who has (inherited) everything?

Posted on June 7, 2012January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Before finally arriving on the topic of today’s (probably very short) post, I was intending to write another Father’s Day Gift post, like I did last at Christmas – i.e. what the man in your life really wants this Christmas. Unfortunately, my fellow fathers seem a lot more reluctant to speak their mind on Father’s…

As a father who often struggles with buying presents for people, I’m a big fan of the concept of wishlists – my Amazon one has served me very well over the years, and our wedding wishlist produced presents we’re still using now. But what do you do if you need to buy for somebody who…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
