Fatherhood²: Is This The Most Frustrating Toy Ever?

Posted on October 2, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As most of you will know, I’m a big fan of Lego, and have been for most of my life. Because of this, I often find my Facebook or Twitter timelines populated with Lego-related stories, accompanied by messages like “I saw this and thought of you!”. Occasionally, I even get Lego given to me as…

Retro DIY Post Alert! Trellis time again…

Posted on June 8, 2012 by Henry Elliss

In a break from the current routine, I interupt my regular daddy-based blogging to post an update on our house DIY! As a bit of background for the uninitiated, I started my first proper blog 8 years ago – titled “Our First Flat” it chronicled the DIY efforts of doing up our house. You can…

Fatherhood²: Home DIY kitchen WIN!

Posted on August 21, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Long ago, before I turned by blogging efforts towards the subject of fatherhood, I had a number of other blogs – most of which can be viewed in the categories to the left, if you’re interested. One of them, entitled “Our First Flat”, was a chronicle of the efforts we made on our house when…

My Year in Photos – February 14th – “Romance in the kitchen”

Posted on February 15, 2010November 26, 2010 by Henry Elliss

My Year in Photos – February 14th – "Romance in the kitchen", originally uploaded by henweb. Okay, so the use of the term ‘romance’ in the title is probably a bit of a lie… We spent Valentines Day demolishing the top half of our kitchen, which is the first part in Stage 2 of the…

My Year in Photos – January 29th – “Building up to bedtime”

Posted on January 29, 2010November 26, 2010 by Henry Elliss

My Year in Photos – January 29th, originally uploaded by henweb. At the end of what has been a pretty fecking tiring week, I was pleased to come home and find that Robert was feeling much better, so much so that when I walked in he was treating his mum as a trampoline. For those…

My Year in Photos – January 17th – “Paint me a picture”

Posted on January 17, 2010November 26, 2010 by Henry Elliss

My Year in Photos – January 17th, originally uploaded by henweb. Well, as my wife just pointed out to me, I’m afraid I’ve failed a bit on my original promise – namely that my ‘Year in Photos’ project wouldn’t just be pictures of my son. My excuse here is that my weekends are understandably filled…

The final carpet arrives

Posted on July 4, 2008 by Henry Elliss

With the arrival of our first baby imminent, Sara finally decided she could cope with the bare floorboards no longer and ordered some carpet for the hallway. The carpet fitters, seeing her condition, promised they would try to get it fitted before baby’s arrival date of the 26th of June. As you can see from…

Summer tidy-up – Garden and Garage

Posted on May 31, 2008 by Henry Elliss

Since the baby is due any day now (well, in the next 4-6 weeks anyway) we thought it would be a good idea to make a little more space in the garage – you never know when another kind relative will drop off a spare cot or moses basket! So Henry set to work cleaning…

Finishing off the loo

Posted on May 18, 2008 by Henry Elliss

We finally got round to putting the finishing touches to the lavatory this weekend. Having sanded all the rough plaster last weekend, we were able to paint the end of the room that was once hidden by the crappy cupboard the previous occupent had bodged. Once that was done, all that remained was the skirting…

Tearing the floor up at New Year

Posted on December 31, 2007 by Henry Elliss

Having got back from a busy Christmas all over the country, Sara decided to take some initiative and rip up the kitchen floor! Parts of it have been peeling up intermitently for a while, but after we left the fridge defrosting while we were away a lot more of it had come up. So we…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
