Fatherhood²: Rusty Nails and Crocs Don’t Mix

Posted on June 28, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As I’m sure the title has probably told you by now, today saw the Elliss family taking their first trip to A&E – and Robert was the lucky recipient of the attention. It all started this afternoon, on what was turning out to be quite a satisfying yet run-of-the-mill day. As it’s Robert and Freddie’s…

Fatherhood²: Help a Fellow Dad – It’s Miller Time!

Posted on June 24, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As some of you may know from mentions in the past (or from the very large logo in the sidebar!) I’m part of a group on Facebook for dad bloggers. I was invited to be a part of that group by one of my fellow bloggers by the name of Oren Miller – aka ‘A…

Fatherhood²: Review – Football + Pizza = WIN

Posted on June 23, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I know I start most of my ‘review’ posts with a ream of excuses about how rubbish I am at doing reviews, or what strange things I get offered and turn away. But this week’s offer was a no-brainer, frankly. Yes, when a nice lady representing Dominos pizza asked if I wanted to try their…

Fatherhood²: Need a Last-minute Father’s Day Gift?

Posted on June 13, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Whilst Father’s Day should be like Christmas to a dad blogger (as many of my dad-blogging friends will attest), it has the inconvenient habit of falling right in the middle of my two sons’ birthdays. This year it sits the day after Robert’s 6th birthday party, the week before we’re heading off on a camping…

Fatherhood²: Time to Admit to my Shameful Addiction

Posted on June 8, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

My name is Henry and I have a worrying addiction – and now that I seem to have passed it on to my children, it’s time to come clean. It’s not really surprising that my children have developed my addiction as well – I first developed my own habit when I was about their age….

Fatherhood²: Review – Corkcicle & Chillsner

Posted on May 31, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I’ve been the proud owner of a Corkcicle wine cooler since Christmas, when I saw it in a quirky shop while shopping in London. So when the people that make them contacted me and asked me to review one, I was quick to point out that I had one and was already sold on it’s…

Fatherhood²: Review – The Little Boy Who Lost His Name

Posted on May 25, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I quite often get asked to review books for children. Books that are written for children, I mean – I don’t get kids coming up to me in libraries asking me to summarise ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ – that would be silly. No, I often get asked whether authors can send me a copy of their…

Fatherhood²: Father of the Year Shortlist Presents Slim Pickings for us Dads

Posted on May 23, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As has become an annual tradition (sadly), the “Father of the Year” shortlist has been announced – and once again the rag-tag collection of dads chosen by the public is a laughable selection. I’ve covered these “Celebrity parent” awards (as they should more accurately call them) before – notably this post from last year: “Fatherhood²:…

Fatherhood²: Review – Westfield Isn’t Just for Clothes Shopping

Posted on May 22, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As most of you will have gathered by now, I’m not very good at doing reviews. Don’t get me wrong, I quite enjoy doing reviews – especially when they’re more than just objects. And for some strange reason, people keep asking me to review stuff – so I merrily carry on. This latest assignment was…

Fatherhood²: My Son, the next Michael Palin?

Posted on May 11, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

After a recent burst of interest in geography (hardly a surprise given his mother’s line of work), Robert has become very inquisitive about the world. So much so that he has now started his own book of world facts and figures, and is planning which countries he’d like to visit when he’s older. This latest…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
