Fatherhood: 10 Reasons You Should Marry a Teacher

Posted on March 13, 2014October 17, 2016 by Henry Elliss

I spend a lot of my time on this blog talking about my children – or the interesting aspects of being a dad. What I don’t spend anywhere near enough time on is appreciating my wife – mother of my children, light of my life. For those of you that don’t know, my wife is…

Fatherhood²: Some Charming Ideas for Mother’s Day

Posted on March 11, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

When a lovely lady from jewellery company ‘Lily Charmed’ contacted me recently, she asked whether I’d like to review some of their charms. She clearly recognised what an expert jewellery appraiser I am – probably combined with my eye for style and ‘bling’. Well, either that or she figured I was probably going to be…

Posted on March 5, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I don’t often write reviews on this blog, but the book I’m reading at the moment is so delightfully good, I felt compelled to share it with you all. The book in question is written by a fellow blogger, Whit Honea of ‘The Honea Express‘ – but before you turn off in your droves, this…

Fatherhood²: I Finally Figured Out the Reason I Blog

Posted on March 1, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Once in a while, somebody will ask me why I write a blog. I don’t think I’ve ever given a particularly inspiring answer to this query, and until very recently I don’t think I could truthfully tell you – because I wasn’t really sure. A couple of recent conversations have made me give it some…

Fatherhood²: When You Think About It, We’re Making Literacy Much Harder For Kids

Posted on February 25, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As I sat at our dining table this morning, eating my cornflakes and mentally planning the day ahead, I noticed something that REALLY annoyed me. Spread out around me on the table were countless pieces of paper – many filled with scribbles and doodles, some school forms to fill in and a couple of pieces…

Fatherhood²: The One Thing I Want for my Children

Posted on February 17, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Sometimes, as I lay in my bed late at night I find myself thinking of times yet to come I’m sure we all do it, though we may try to fight But my brain wonders “What will my children become?” I picture their school days, their friends and their lives All the days when they’re…

Fatherhood²: Why I Nearly Didn’t Review the Lego Movie – And What Made Me

Posted on February 16, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

When I purchased our tickets to see the Lego Movie this morning, I considered for a moment whether I should write a review of it here once we’d seen it. After all, there aren’t many bigger Lego nerds than me (well, not that I know anyway) so it’s only right that I should share my…

Fatherhood²: Longer School Hours? Michael Gove, I’d like you Expelled!

Posted on February 10, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

If you’re the parent of a child in the British school system, chances are you will have heard about our government’s latest plans for shaking-up the school system. According to our Pob-faced buffoon of an education secretary, Michael Gove, he wants to extend the school day to 9-10 hours, at the same time reducing school…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
