The 7 Reasons I don’t post as much as I’d like to

Posted on October 31, 2023October 31, 2023 by Henry Elliss

Anyone who has visited this blog much over the past few years will have noticed that I’ve really slowed down my posting of late. Initially, I put this down to the fact that my decision to re-focus the site on camping rather than parenting – as much as I love camping, it’s not something I…

Time for a change… but a change to what?

Posted on April 1, 2019April 16, 2019 by Henry Elliss

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while now, congratulations on sticking it out, despite my rather sporadic posting schedule. According to my blog stats, there are about 5 of you, but let’s gloss over that – let’s just say I appreciate you all. But if you HAVE been reading for a while, you’ll…

Fatherhood: Why I’m embracing my own parenting mediocrity!

Posted on January 8, 2018December 6, 2018 by Henry Elliss

If you’ve not noticed by now, my blog has recently had somewhat of a face-lift. Not only have I got a new (hopefully more usable) look-and-feel, and a little bit of new functionality, I’ve also got an entirely new domain and brand. I am now “The Mediocre Dad”. I’ve been considering switching things up for…

Fatherhood: Parenting – You are now entering Phase 2

Posted on September 20, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

This would definitely go down as one of the more unusual places that I’ve written a blog post. I am currently sat on a bench on the balcony-floor above a school swimming pool, laptop on lap, children whooping and screaming on the level below. It’s not my children’s school, I should point out – though…

Fatherhood: Things I’ve Learnt from what YOU Read

Posted on July 30, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Unless you’re a blogger yourself, or you work in the content industry, you may not be familiar with the thrilling highs (and crushing lows) of monitoring a website’s traffic. Most good blogs (and indeed websites) will have some level of analytics installed, which tell the site owner how many people are visiting, what they’re doing…

Fatherhood²: You’re Not Going to BELIEVE What This Guy Did with a Computer and 10 Digits!

Posted on January 3, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Until a couple of hours ago, my first post of 2014 was going to be an apology. Having not (properly) blogged for over a month – having no computer and no internet will do that, unfortunately – I was going to apologise to you, my reader, and promise to be a better blogger in future….

Fatherhood²: Lazy Online Marketers – This is Your Final Warning

Posted on September 4, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Dear marketers, spammers, PR people and lazy SEO folk. This is a friendly final warning to stop sending me crappy articles to “share”, rubbish pitches to promote your products (with zero benefit to me) and other blog spam. I’ve tried to be nice to you – I’ve written several posts outlining my thoughts on your…

Fatherhood²: Watch Out – The Dads are Coming!

Posted on January 13, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have seen the future of blogging – and it’s dads! But fear not, this is no rallying cry or declaration of war – quite frankly, it’s a pretty daunting place, this future of blogging… I should probably start at the beginning… When I first started on my journey as a ‘daddy…

Fatherhood²: Want to Hear From Other Dads? Be My Guest!

Posted on October 15, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I’ve been “daddy blogging” for almost 10 months now, and am slowly finding my feet. I’ve got some lovely regular readers as well as some lovely guest posters – some of whom don’t get half as much praise as they deserve. So I wanted to go some way to correcting that here, by highlighting some…

Fatherhood²: The Pleasure and Pain of “Blogger Engagement”

Posted on April 25, 2011April 27, 2011 by Henry Elliss

As both a blogger and a social media… person, I regularly come in to contact with people hoping to form relationships with bloggers. I’ve even done it myself a few times – though I’m by no means an expert. But the concept of “blogger engagement” is a very interesting one to me, and – I…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
