Fatherhood: Talking Food with Jamie Oliver and HuffPo

Posted on July 15, 2016January 6, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Today I had the privilege of being invited to take part in a really interesting event at the offices of the Huffington Post in London. Myself and a selection of other, much more prolific parenting bloggers (and a few others to boot) were asked to take part in a debate with TV Chef and all-round…

Fatherhood²: Funny Dads. What a bunch of Jokers.

Posted on October 16, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I’ve never professed to being a parenting expert – far from it in fact. Despite the fact that I run a blog about being a dad, most of you will know by now that I’m just muddling my way through like the rest of them. One thing I HAVE learnt in my 6+ years as…

Fatherhood²: Father of the Year Shortlist Presents Slim Pickings for us Dads

Posted on May 23, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As has become an annual tradition (sadly), the “Father of the Year” shortlist has been announced – and once again the rag-tag collection of dads chosen by the public is a laughable selection. I’ve covered these “Celebrity parent” awards (as they should more accurately call them) before – notably this post from last year: “Fatherhood²:…

Fatherhood²: My Son, the Future Olympian?

Posted on March 15, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Robert received one of his first tastes of success this week, when Olympic Gold medallist Jason Gardener visited his school to talk to the children about sport. When he came home from school that evening, Robert told his mum “Today I beat an Olympic medallist in a race!” – which confused us greatly until we…

Fatherhood²: Finally, David Beckham and I have Something in Common

Posted on February 3, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Yesterday, I learned that David Beckham and I have something in common. No, I’ve not been holding a secret footballing ability back from you all these years – and I certainly don’t have a penchant for wearing sarongs. No, as it turns out, our common love is for something a little smaller – namely, Lego….

Fatherhood²: The 10 Best Things About CarFest

Posted on August 26, 2013February 4, 2019 by Henry Elliss

This weekend just gone, we were lucky enough to attend CarFest South, the family festival dreamed-up by Radio 2’s Chris Evans. Sara bought us weekend camping tickets to the event earlier in the year as a treat – and it was one of the main reasons we finally got our camping arses in to gear….

Fatherhood²: Are Celebrity Parenting Awards an Insult to Regular Parents?

Posted on February 20, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

In what has become a highlight of absolutely nobody’s year, the announcement of the shortlist for “Celebrity Mum of the Year” was made today – and this year’s shortlist is another cracker. Amongst the names on the Foxybingo-sponsored list – a list apparently made up of “the most inspiring celebrity mums” – are perpetual favourites…

Sad News for La Senza Fans (Warning: May Contain Puns!)

Posted on January 6, 2012March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

If you’re the type of person who likes to keep a-breast of the latest business news, you’ll doubtless be aware that lingerie chain La Senza is close to going bust, possibly due to sagging profits. Other possible reasons for the announcement have been speculated, including: A lack of support from share holders; A depletion of…

Fatherhood²: Danny Wallace is a Dad (Interview)

Posted on October 16, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Danny Wallace is a man. This much we know from his popular column in ShortList magazine. But he is also so much more than a man – the presence of a Y chromosome in Daniel’s DNA is the least of his talents. He is also (in no particular order): A best-selling author; A TV producer,…

Fatherhood²: Five Fantastic (Famous) Fathers I Follow

Posted on June 19, 2011March 3, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As it’s Father’s Day, I thought it might be nice to show a little love to some of my favourite fathers – famous faces you’ll know, and a few you might not. All of them are dads though, and people who I love to follow online (in a Twitter sense, rather than a stalkerish way!)…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
