Fatherhood²: Lego Pops-Up at Westfield London

Posted on July 31, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Back in May, a nice lady from an agency invited me along to Westfield shopping centre in London, to review what it was like for a dad (Fatherhood²: Review – Westfield Isn’t Just for Clothes Shopping). When said nice lady discovered that I spent the gift card she gave me in the Lego shop (well…

Fatherhood²: The Finnish Government treats Parents Right. Here’s why

Posted on July 23, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Last week, a photo album began circulating on social media sites which showed a young Finnish mother-to-be receiving her government-funded maternity box. The photos generated a huge amount of interest in the Finnish system – but other than showing us the contents of said box, didn’t do justice to quite what an awesome initiative it…

Fatherhood²: 12 Ways a New Baby is like an iPhone

Posted on July 14, 2014June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

You might not ever have given it much thought, but an iPhone is a hell of a lot like a new baby. Don’t believe me? Here’s how: Price. No matter how carefully you do your sums beforehand, they inevitably turn out to be more expensive than you expect. Usually it’s because you forget to factor…

Fatherhood²: Lego vs Greenpeace – What’s it About?

Posted on July 10, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Chances are you will have seen a video from Greenpeace somewhere in your social feeds this week – if you’ve not seen it yet, take a look at the clip below. In a nutshell, Greenpeace are campaigning for Lego to drop their partnership with Shell Oil – a relationship which has been going for 50…

Fatherhood²: Family Days Out – Warwick Castle

Posted on July 8, 2014June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Having been planning a weekend at Thomas Land @ Drayton Manor for some time (to celebrate Freddie’s 3rd birthday), our plans went slightly awry a few weeks before hand when we discovered that the park was semi-closed on the day we’d been planning to visit. As we’d already booked our hotel for the Saturday night,…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Does Cbeebies have an Overtly Tory Agenda?

Posted on July 3, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The following was written for the blog by my good friend Phill – I think (hope?) with tongue firmly in cheek. One thing’s for sure – Phill’s hatred of Mike the Knight knows no bounds… so you never know! As a Dad with a young child, CBeebies has taken up residence in my life for…

Fatherhood²: Drama Over; Time to Party!

Posted on June 29, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With the drama and panic of yesterday now just a distant memory, it was time to get back to the original plan for the weekend – a birthday party for the boys. Robert turned 6 2 weeks ago and Freddie turns 3 next week, so we decided (as we have in previous years) to save…

Fatherhood²: Rusty Nails and Crocs Don’t Mix

Posted on June 28, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As I’m sure the title has probably told you by now, today saw the Elliss family taking their first trip to A&E – and Robert was the lucky recipient of the attention. It all started this afternoon, on what was turning out to be quite a satisfying yet run-of-the-mill day. As it’s Robert and Freddie’s…

Fatherhood²: Review – Football + Pizza = WIN

Posted on June 23, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I know I start most of my ‘review’ posts with a ream of excuses about how rubbish I am at doing reviews, or what strange things I get offered and turn away. But this week’s offer was a no-brainer, frankly. Yes, when a nice lady representing Dominos pizza asked if I wanted to try their…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
