Fatherhood²: How do I Turn my Son into a Loser?

Posted on February 9, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As parents, we’ve always strived to bring our children up as good people. We teach them to be polite and courteous (you have to see Freddie’s “oooh, amazing!” Christmas present reaction – it’s foolproof!), we teach them how to be nice to others – we teach them all the stuff we believe you need to…

Fatherhood²: Finally, David Beckham and I have Something in Common

Posted on February 3, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Yesterday, I learned that David Beckham and I have something in common. No, I’ve not been holding a secret footballing ability back from you all these years – and I certainly don’t have a penchant for wearing sarongs. No, as it turns out, our common love is for something a little smaller – namely, Lego….

Fatherhood²: My Two Dads, aka The Dangers of Facebook Scammers and What You Can Do About Them

Posted on January 29, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Today, my father was cloned. His clone wanted to be my friend, though he apparently wasn’t too interested in my mother – so at least he has morals. He also wanted to be friends with most of my family – I guess integration is important for clones. Unfortunately, my dad wasn’t best pleased about his…

Fatherhood²: Let’s All go to the Toy Fair! or ‘Another Illusion Shattered!’

Posted on January 22, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Today, one of my long-held childhood dreams proved to be a crashing disappointment. Let me explain… Ever since I was a child, I’ve harboured dreams of attending a “Toy Show”. I remember watching a report on BBC Newsround from one of these shows, over twenty years ago, and thinking to myself “God, I bet it’s…

Fatherhood²: The Giant Lego That Made me Hate a Child

Posted on January 14, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Over the Christmas holidays, I made a slightly disappointing discovery about myself – and it was facilitated by some giant Lego bricks. I know that sounds like a Buzzfeed-headline in the making, but it’s true – and here’s why… After the rush of Christmas, we took the opportunity of a few days off work to…

Fatherhood²: End of Story? Or Just a New Chapter?

Posted on January 12, 2014 by Henry Elliss

I’ve written many times about my enjoyment at reading books with my children. Not just because I enjoy telling them tales, making silly voices and making them laugh either – my love of bedtime story-time is important to me for two big reasons. Firstly, I’m passionate about making sure my children enjoy reading as a…

Fatherhood²: You’re Not Going to BELIEVE What This Guy Did with a Computer and 10 Digits!

Posted on January 3, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Until a couple of hours ago, my first post of 2014 was going to be an apology. Having not (properly) blogged for over a month – having no computer and no internet will do that, unfortunately – I was going to apologise to you, my reader, and promise to be a better blogger in future….

Fatherhood²: The Santa Delusion, aka Keeping the Dream Alive

Posted on December 17, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With the major disruption and stress of our house move now behind us, the Christmas spirit has well and truly arrived in the Elliss household. The Christmas tree is up and decorated, the tinsel is hung and the wreath has yet to be stolen from our front door. We’ve even had multiple viewings of the…

Fatherhood²: Guest Post – Get your kids Skydancing!

Posted on December 16, 2013January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Did you ever see one of those inflatable crazy dancing guys in front of a store? We drive pass one almost daily, and we’ve named him Crazy Guy. The kids have had a long time obsession with Crazy Guy, going back as far as they can remember. Whenever we pile into the car, the first…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
