Time for a change… but a change to what?

Posted on April 1, 2019April 16, 2019 by Henry Elliss

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while now, congratulations on sticking it out, despite my rather sporadic posting schedule. According to my blog stats, there are about 5 of you, but let’s gloss over that – let’s just say I appreciate you all. But if you HAVE been reading for a while, you’ll…

Competition – Win Thunderbirds Are Go Merch!

Posted on March 27, 2018April 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few years, you’ll be aware that Thunderbirds have had a bit of a resurgence. No longer confined to their (literal) puppet-masters, our favourite rescue organisation are now fully-CGI and better than ever before. The first two series of the newly-digital show have been firm favourites…

Review – Star Wars Jedi Training Remote & Holopanes

Posted on December 4, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Anybody who knows me will attest to the fact that I am long-time Star Wars fan. It’s not just the films either – I’ve read a lot of the “extended universe” books, collected the trading cards, have a loft full of action figures (both classic and new) and much, much more. In short, I’m a…

Review – Disney Store & Cars 3

Posted on July 23, 2017March 20, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I don’t know about your house, but the Cars films have been an entertainment staple in ours for the past 5 or 6 years now. We saw both of the first two films at the cinema (the second being Freddie’s first ever trip to the cinema) and we’ve got more Cars toys than you can…

Fatherhood: A Lego Mini(figure) Adventure

Posted on May 7, 2017January 6, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As most people who read this blog will probably be painfully aware, I’m a bit of a Lego fan. Actually, that’s probably an understatement – I’m a huge, geeky Lego fan – and thankfully my children like it quite a bit too. We have boxes and boxes of the stuff (all sorted by colour, obviously…

Fatherhood: Review – Lego Super Hero Mighty Micros 2

Posted on February 4, 2017April 16, 2024 by Henry Elliss

Having bought the kids the complete set of Super Hero “Mighty Micros” sets last year for their birthdays, we have been eagerly awaiting the release of more from the series. Thankfully, we weren’t disappointed – this year sees the release of a whole new set! Just like the first series, this line comprises of 3…

Fatherhood: Review – Nickelodeon Turtle Power!

Posted on April 13, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As with most of my reviews, I should probably start this particular one with a disclaimer: I don’t pretend to be a consumer champion, an expert reviewer or (as you can probably tell) a genius wordsmith. To be honest, I’m not even sure why people bother to ask me to review stuff. But ask me…

Fatherhood: Review – Science4you Play Sets

Posted on February 3, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I was recently contacted by a lovely lady from a website called ‘Science4You‘, who asked if the boys and I would like to review some of their sets. Having never heard of the site before, but being intrigued enough by the name, I accepted happily and awaited my parcel in the following week’s post. The…

Fatherhood: Review – Hot Wheels Super Loop Chase Race / Total Turbo Takeover Trackset

Posted on December 21, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The good people at Mattel are clearly feeling in the festive spirit, as they asked the boys and I if we’d mind reviewing not one but TWO new Hot Wheels sets. Given that my oldest is an utter Hot Wheels fanatic, I wasn’t about to say no – so that’s exactly what we’ve done! I…

Fatherhood²: Cleaning out the Closet – Out with the Old…

Posted on November 10, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With the realisation that we are probably not going to have another child – at least not any time soon – comes the decision that we probably needed to clear out our attic of all the baby accouterments we’ve been storing there for the past few years. Now I’m not going to pretend the decision…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
