Fatherhood: 2014, A Year in our Family Album – Part 1

Posted on December 8, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I’m not a very good blogger – as you may well have gotten the jist-of by now. I don’t post very often, I’m rubbish at thinking of what to write, and (despite my career in marketing) I’m utterly appalling at promoting this blog. One thing I AM reasonably good at doing regularly is taking photos….

Fatherhood²: Is Santa Taking All the Credit in your House?

Posted on November 18, 2014June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Being the certified, Christmas-loving parents that we are, my wife and I have already made significant headway with our Christmas present shopping. Stockings have been filled (purely for test purposes, obviously), presents wrapped and bags safely stowed away in the loft. In our house, the story goes that Santa is the man in charge of…

Fatherhood²: Fairy Tales Exposed – the REAL moral of those fairytale stories…

Posted on November 14, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Story time at our house is often a source of inspiration for my blog. The other night was no exception! With bath time done and dusted, we sat down to read the usual stories before bedding down for the night. Rather than pick one of the more ‘modern’ offerings on the shelf, Freddie opted for…

Fatherhood²: Cleaning out the Closet – Out with the Old…

Posted on November 10, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With the realisation that we are probably not going to have another child – at least not any time soon – comes the decision that we probably needed to clear out our attic of all the baby accouterments we’ve been storing there for the past few years. Now I’m not going to pretend the decision…

Fatherhood²: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Posted on November 6, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Time for an admission: I’m one of those annoying people who starts getting excited about Christmas around the start of November. Actually, that’s not strictly true: I actually start getting excited about it around the end of August, but I try not to vocalise this excitement until slightly later in the year, lest I make…

Fatherhood²: A (Trick or) Treat from HP for Hallowe’en

Posted on October 30, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

When the lovely people at HP emailed to ask if I’d like to treat myself to a test-drive of one of their Pavilion x360 laptops, I naturally assumed it was actually a trick (Look at me – I got a hallowe’en joke in the very first line of this post – impressed?!). Upon further inquiry,…

Fatherhood²: The Clothes Pose that he Chose

Posted on October 26, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The lovely people at House of Fraser recently wrote to me to ask if I’d like to pick some clothes out for the kids, from their latest collection. They’re apparently doing a project called ‘Dressed by Dad’ (sounds like a recipe for disaster, if my own dress sense is anything to go by!) and let…

Fatherhood²: An Ode to Sleep-deprived Parents

Posted on October 26, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

One of my friends shared this on Facebook, and it made me howl with laughter so I had to share it here. Apparently the Sydney Symphony and Sydney Choirs Orchestra decided to record their own rendition of ‘O Fortuna’, with some very parent-friendly new lyrics by Matthew Hodge. “O You Terror.” Click the video below…

Fatherhood²: Huggies Think us Dads are Lazy

Posted on October 20, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

According to “research” released today, a large proportion of fathers pretend to be asleep when their child cries during the night. To summarise what is essentially a press release for a nappy company, dads are arse holes who leave the serious stuff to mum. Let me caveat this post by saying that, as a marketer…

Fatherhood²: Funny Dads. What a bunch of Jokers.

Posted on October 16, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I’ve never professed to being a parenting expert – far from it in fact. Despite the fact that I run a blog about being a dad, most of you will know by now that I’m just muddling my way through like the rest of them. One thing I HAVE learnt in my 6+ years as…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
