Fatherhood: Review – The Toucan Box

Posted on May 5, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Another week, another review – I must be getting better at this! Either that or the people offering me things to review haven’t actually read any of my other reviews. But it can’t be that, surely? :D Anyway, the people behind the ‘Toucan Box‘ club (club is the best word I can think of for…

Fatherhood: Review – Nickelodeon Turtle Power!

Posted on April 13, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As with most of my reviews, I should probably start this particular one with a disclaimer: I don’t pretend to be a consumer champion, an expert reviewer or (as you can probably tell) a genius wordsmith. To be honest, I’m not even sure why people bother to ask me to review stuff. But ask me…

Fatherhood: Review – Heroes of the City

Posted on March 1, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Around this time last year, I ran a competition for some ‘Heroes of the City‘ goodies – a competition which generated quite a lot of interest. And Heroes of the City did the same for my children – they’ve watched the 1 DVD we own of the show NUMEROUS times since then, and still quote…

Fatherhood: Review – I’ve been Framed

Posted on February 17, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

Most of the items I get contacted about reviewing for this blog are child-related – and usually in a pretty obvious way. So I found myself scratching my head a little when the folks at eFrame got in touch to ask if I’d like to review their online picture frame service. However, whilst scratching my…

Fatherhood: Review – Science4you Play Sets

Posted on February 3, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

I was recently contacted by a lovely lady from a website called ‘Science4You‘, who asked if the boys and I would like to review some of their sets. Having never heard of the site before, but being intrigued enough by the name, I accepted happily and awaited my parcel in the following week’s post. The…

Fatherhood: takes on Boyhood

Posted on January 20, 2015January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

As I sit here in San Jose (California), 5,500 miles away from my family, I have plenty of time to reflect on the aspects of fatherhood which I’m currently missing out on. I’ve only been here for a couple of days so far, so I mustn’t grumble too much – I’m certainly missing them all…

Fatherhood: Review – Hot Wheels Super Loop Chase Race / Total Turbo Takeover Trackset

Posted on December 21, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The good people at Mattel are clearly feeling in the festive spirit, as they asked the boys and I if we’d mind reviewing not one but TWO new Hot Wheels sets. Given that my oldest is an utter Hot Wheels fanatic, I wasn’t about to say no – so that’s exactly what we’ve done! I…

Fatherhood: Family Days Out – Christmas at Legoland Windsor

Posted on December 14, 2014June 4, 2018 by Henry Elliss

With the big day fast approaching, and a trip to see Father Christmas still not ticked-off our seasonal ‘to do’ list, my wife came across an interesting new option last week. It seemed to fulfil all the criteria: a fun day out, a chance to meet the big man and do some other Christmassy stuff,…

Fatherhood²: A (Trick or) Treat from HP for Hallowe’en

Posted on October 30, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

When the lovely people at HP emailed to ask if I’d like to treat myself to a test-drive of one of their Pavilion x360 laptops, I naturally assumed it was actually a trick (Look at me – I got a hallowe’en joke in the very first line of this post – impressed?!). Upon further inquiry,…

Fatherhood²: The Clothes Pose that he Chose

Posted on October 26, 2014January 7, 2018 by Henry Elliss

The lovely people at House of Fraser recently wrote to me to ask if I’d like to pick some clothes out for the kids, from their latest collection. They’re apparently doing a project called ‘Dressed by Dad’ (sounds like a recipe for disaster, if my own dress sense is anything to go by!) and let…

As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I want As today is ‘Back British Farming’ day, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the farmers in the local area, especially Brimpton’s own @mbowden1954. One of my favourite aspects of living where we do now is being surrounded by countryside and farm land - and being able to see an actively-farmed field at the end of our garden. Every time something’s being done to the field I’m out with my camera, usually trying to figure out the names of all the machinery - and it’s so nice to see a product being grown right from seed to harvest. I know it’s not easy for farmers at the moment, and I dearly hope ours are able to keep farming for many years to come - so if you have one near you, make sure to show them all the support you can!
